Boori Room

Boori is a Dharug aboriginal word meaning ‘baby’

The Room

Our Boori room caters for 15 babies between 6 weeks and 2 years of age.

Four caring staff build trusting relationships with each child and with family members.  Their training and experience in infant care means that each child’s individual routine is catered for.

With two cot rooms a peaceful rest is promoted.

A separate play yard and room means that babies have a warm and stimulating environment in which to safely explore.

Room Philosophy

Top

In the Boori Room we provide a safe and caring environment where children can happily grow and develop. We aim:

Ø  To cater to children’s individual routines. We do this by being consistent with children’s routines between home and Euroka, using the routine charts, supplementary information sheets and by talking to parents about changes as children grow.

Ø  To acknowledge that care and education are inseparable.  We do this through using an ethos of attachment

Ø To program through the children’s interests using developmentally appropriate activities that extend skills.  We do this through ensuring that children have opportunities to experience a variety of activities.

Ø  To use a whole child approach recognising that children learn in different ways.  We do this through assisting children in the development of toileting, modelling appropriate behaviour, encouraging children to help in day to day routines and acknowledging appropriate behaviours.

Ø To practice an anti biased policy with recognition of individual differences and abilities.  We do this through ensuring that all children have the opportunity to achieve.

Ø  To recognise the importance of an aesthetically pleasing environment.  We do this through displaying the children’s own works of art and craft.  Displaying artefacts, setting up activities in an inviting manner and ensuring that light and sound complement the learning environment.

Ø  To honour the family as the primary socialising context of the child.  We do this through maintaining open communication with each family.
